Job Title: General Assistant
Location: The Bridge Hotel, Buttermere, Lake District
Job Type: Full-Time (30–40 hours per week)
Pay: £13.50 per hour
About Us
The Bridge Hotel is a traditional Lakeland hotel located in the beautiful village of Buttermere, surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in the Lake District. We pride ourselves on friendly service, great food, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for both guests and staff. If you enjoy working somewhere with incredible views (and the occasional curious sheep), you’ll feel right at home here.
The Role
We are looking for a friendly and adaptable General Assistant to join our team. This is a varied role where no two days are quite the same — you might be helping in the restaurant, assisting behind the bar, admiring interesting parking made by tourists or making sure our guests have everything they need for a great stay.
Due to the rural location of the hotel, applicants must hold a valid driving licence and have reliable transport. Unfortunately, the local bus timetable is about as unpredictable as the Lake District weather.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting with food and drink service in the restaurant and bar
Welcoming and assisting guests in a friendly and professional manner
Helping set up and clear tables
Maintaining cleanliness and presentation in guest areas
Working as part of a team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
Generally being the kind of helpful person every hotel wishes they had more of
Requirements
Valid UK driving licence due to the rural location
Friendly and approachable personality
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Reliability and good timekeeping
Ability to work in a busy hospitality environment
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Willingness to help across different departments when required
Previous hospitality experience is helpful but not essential — enthusiasm and a good attitude are far more important
What We Offer
£13.50 per hour
30–40 hours per week
Meals provided while on duty
Free gym membership
Monthly share of tips
A friendly and supportive team environment
The opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful locations in the UK (your commute might involve mountains, lakes, and the occasional sheep traffic jam)
How to Apply
If you’re hardworking, positive, and enjoy working with people, we’d love to hear from you.
